New VPRI Announced: Welcome To Robert Haché And Sincere Thanks To Stan Shapson

Giuseppina D’Agostino is the Founder and Director of IP Osgoode, and an Associate Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School.

This time of the academic year is always bitter sweet, a time for farewell salutes and also welcomes.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Robert Haché, a molecular and cellular biologist and biochemist, as the new Vice-President Research & Innovation at York University, beginning July 1, 2011.  The announcement was made by York President & Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri on May 30, 2011.  Please read the YFile headline article published the next day.

Dr. Haché is currently the Associate Vice-President Research at the University of Calgary, where he has played a key role in advancing strategic research priorities. Previously, he spent 18 years at the University of Ottawa, the last 12 in a series of research leadership positions that ended with a term as Vice-Dean, Research for the Faculty of Medicine.

We salute with immense gratitude Stan Shapson, the outgoing Vice-President Research & Innovation, for his vision, service and leadership at York University. Dr. Shapson’s research interests span the fields of bilingual and multicultural education, and innovative program design and policy development.

As an avid supporter of IP Osgoode’s he has keenly backed our various events such as the Commercialization Conference (which we co-sponsor with the Hennick Centre), he encouraged the establishment of our Innovation Clinic (which we co-founded with the Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE)), and he has ensured strong ties between IP Osgoode and ventureLAB, a business knowledge and skills catalyst centre located at the Markham Convergence Centre.  As a York researcher, Stan will be working on social innovation and on building innovation communities, and much of his research will focus on York Region and emanate from the Markham Convergence Centre

Dr. Shapson's enthusiasm, wisdom, and friendship will be missed. For all of these reasons, we look forward to being able to work with him as he continues to build on Ontario and Canada’s innovation portfolio.
