IP Osgoode and the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada are thrilled to announce the winners of the second annual edition of Canada’s IP Writing Challenge:

1. In the Graduate Student category, Pascale Chapdelaine won thanks to her entry: “The Nature and Justification of the Consumer’s Ownership Rights in the Copy of a Copyrighted Work”. The author is a Ph.D. in law candidate at Osgoode Hall law school.

2. In the Professional category, the winners were Michael Crichton and Kiernan A. Murphy who co-authored: “Obviously Different: Technological Divergences and the Spectrum of Obviousness“. The authors are lawyers at Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP.

3. In the Law Student category, the judges did not select a winner for this year’s Challenge.

We were pleased to receive submissions from across the country on a wide range of subjects, including: entertainment law, fairy tales, Internet governance, parody, philosophy, the public interest, trade mark, and traditional knowledge.

The winners will be receiving a prize of $1000 and have their articles considered for publication in the Canadian Intellectual Property Review (CIPR) and the Osgoode Hall Review of Law and Policy (OHRLP).
